GLG WPRD is Bigger & Better This Year!

World PR Day (WPRD) is a global celebration uniting over 60 countries annually on July 16th to honour and advance the field of Public Relations and the communications industry globally. In partnership with The Guardian Nigeria and WPRD, GLG Communications spearheaded a groundbreaking flagship Nigerian WPRD event in July 2022, in Lagos Nigeria, recognising 50 outstanding PR practitioners through the coveted “PR Power List”. This year, GLG is hosting 3 landmark events and is bringing back the PR Power List with a bang! The 2024 WPRD official theme is The Future of Public Relations in a Changing World, and we will be exploring the future of communications in today’s global landscape.

Our World PR Day 2024 Calendar

The PR Power List is a first-of-its-kind celebration to honour outstanding PR professionals in Nigeria to mark World PR Day, celebrated annually on July 16 across the world. The list is divided into five main categories: ICONS, CHANGEMAKERS, COMMUNITY IMPACT, RISING VOICES, MEDIA ICONS. The list was selected by our judging panel, who worked independently of each other to provide a holistic list.

Nitin Mantri

Nitin Mantri is the Regional Executive Managing Director for Asia-Pacific at WE Communications and Group CEO at Avian WE. He also chairs the PRCA’s Global Advisory Board and co-chairs PRCA Asia Pacific. Nitin was the first Asian President of the International Communications Consultancy Organisation (ICCO) from 2019 to 2022, while also leading the Public Relations Consultants Association of India (PRCAI) as President from 2015 to 2020.

Nitin’s entrepreneurial spirit led him to leave a successful UK career in 2006 to helm Avian WE as its CEO and Business Partner. In 2007, he co-founded Chase India, a dominant force in India’s public policy sphere. A fervent advocate for the PR industry, Nitin mentors ICCO’s Global PR Youth Board and shapes academic curricula at mass communication colleges in India. He is on the advisory boards of The School of Communications and Reputation (SCoRe), Giving Tuesday, and Bennet University.

His contributions have been recognised with numerous accolades, including the PRCA APAC Outstanding Contribution Award (2024), induction into the ICCO Hall of Fame (2022), PRovoke News’s Individual Achievement SABRE Award (2021), and ICCO’s Global PR Leader of the Year Award (2015).

Segun McMedal

With over two decades of extensive experience across diverse sectors including sales, journalism, publishing, public relations, event management, and talent development, Segun is dedicated to optimizing the potential of individuals, companies, and brands. He is a distinguished marketing communications strategist and administrator, recipient of multiple prestigious awards.

Currently serving as the President and CEO of Upticomm Marketing Company, Segun previously held the esteemed position of Chairman at the Lagos State Chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations. Segun is recognized for his versatility as a publisher, public relations practitioner, diplomat, model, public speaker, amateur graphic designer, and digital media enthusiast.

His commitment to lifelong learning, coupled with a passion for travel and literature, underscores his dedication to personal growth and making a positive impact on families and communities.

Autumn Marie Faraj

Autumn Marie is a communications professional with nearly 20 years of PR and marketing experience. She has executed communications campaigns, experiential activations, and community engagement events across the US and various parts of Africa. After fifteen years of working in music, film, TV, and social cause communications in New York City, Autumn Marie moved to Mauritius and then to Rwanda, where she has been living and working since 2018.

Autumn Marie is the founder and managing director of KGL FWD (Kigali Forward), a creative and cultural communications, lifestyle, and capacity-building agency that develops stories, strategies, collaborations, and experiences to amplify more expansive narratives of Africa. KGL FWD is also the founder of the Rwanda Communications Network, a network hub for communications professionals in Rwanda to collaborate, exchange best practices, provide professional development, and collectively support the growth of Rwanda’s communications industry.

Autumn is deeply committed to connecting people, places, and resources from across the global Black diaspora and using the power of words, media, and art to disrupt biased narratives and engage audiences in impactful and memorable ways.

Kwame Senou

Kwame Senou has spent his career working in agencies of all sizes across the West African countries of Ivory Coast, Benin, and Togo, including OPRG and, most recently, as Senior Vice President of Opinion & Public BCW. He has always maintained a singular focus on bridging the gap between Francophone and Anglophone Africa. In 2022, he set up The Holding Opinion & Public to further champion this cause and advance the practice of PR in Francophone Africa by working with global partners including the PROI network, Edelman, and BCW.

Having advised multinationals, regional champions, governments, and not-for-profit organizations on strategic communications, media relations, advertising, branding, events, and content production, he is known for his in-depth understanding of audiences in French-speaking Africa and the best channels to reach them. He is also a PRCA Global Advisory Board member and a board member of Brand Africa.

Ogo Onwuzurike

Ogo Onwuzurike currently holds the position of Country Manager at Truecaller in Nigeria. In this pivotal role, she spearheads Truecaller’s go-to-market strategy, overseeing the comprehensive operations expansion in Nigeria. Her primary focus is on fostering collaborations with ecosystem partners, service providers, and local businesses to elevate Truecaller to a household name among both consumers and businesses in the region.

With an illustrious track record of propelling businesses to build successful market penetration strategies and scale SaaS products across Africa, Ogo stands out as a recognized leader in the industry. With over a decade of diverse experience in sectors such as banking, payments, fintech, and SaaS, she has lent her expertise to renowned companies including GlaxoSmithKline, Philip Morris International, Interswitch, and MetaMap.

Ogo holds a degree in Communications from the University of Nigeria Nsukka and a Post Graduate Diploma in Digital Business from Emeritus Institute of Management.

Rachel Onamusi

Rachel Onamusi is the founder of VN Sync, a full-service digital agency specializing in all aspects of digital media, with a particular focus on strategy development, implementation, and facilitation. Her projects have ranged from marketing consulting, market research, corporate and personal brand management, product and campaign launch, political campaign media and PR, publicity strategy development and management, to technology training and certification platforms’ management.

An accomplished digital media strategist and growth facilitator for major corporate global brands, Ms. Onamusi’s extensive experience has a global reach, covering both the private and public sectors. Having served clients in the USA, Europe, and Africa, Rachel’s passion remains supporting and driving efforts that create a lasting impact in education, health, and sustainable development.

Olamide Jasanya

Olamide Jasanya is a seasoned corporate and marketing communications professional with experience spanning journalism, digital media, public relations, and financial services. He has held key roles at leading organizations such as ID Africa, Black House Media (BHM), Brooks and Blake, Sterling Bank Plc, and Heirs Insurance. Currently, he serves as Manager, B2B Portfolio at Tangerine.Olamide’s academic background includes a degree in Drama and Dramatics/Theatre Arts from Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), a Masters in Business Administration with a specialization in Marketing from the University of Lagos, and a Master of Science in CSR & Sustainability with Distinction from London Metropolitan University.

Babajide Benson - Executive Director, CAST Public Relations

Babajide Benson is a consummate communications professional and master of ceremonies with comprehensive expertise across the value chain, specializing in public relations, investor relations, media relations, business development, corporate writing, and crisis management. As a Board Advisor and community leader, he positions business leaders as subject matter experts through innovative thinking and strategic networking. He previously served as Executive Consultant, Corporate Communications at the Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority (NSIA). Currently, Babajide is the Executive Director at CAST Public Relations and a Producer/Presenter at CITY105.1FM.

Andras Sztaniszlav

Andras is the CEO of ICCO (International Communications Consultancy Organisation) and also President of the HuPRA (Hungarian PR Association)

Andras Sztaniszlav started his career as a journalist, later worked for the Government Services as Comms Officer and then became a strategic communications advisor. His consultancy service (PersonaR Communication Advisory Ltd) has been on the market since 2005. Over the years he advised clients from the corporate and not-for-profit sector, startups, and company leaders. As a consultant he mostly works with in-house comms teams, agencies, project teams on organizational developments, strategic planning, stakeholder management and creating organisational narratives.” He is a Chartered PR Practitioner, a certified CMS consultant and auditor, a Fellow of the CIPR; President of the Hungarian PR Association. He has been recognized by PRO. PR Global Award in 2018. He is currently the CEO of ICCO.

Precious Nwachukwu

A distinguished MBA graduate from the University of Edinburgh Business School recognized as an MBA Leadership Scholar. With over a decade of international experience in public relations, corporate communication, and organizational strategy, she has led communication strategies for high-profile multimillion-dollar projects, including mergers, acquisitions, and nationwide rebrands.

While at Blackhouse Media (BHM), she played a pivotal role in increasing MTN Nigeria’s market capitalization and growing client revenue and market share. Her rebranding efforts at Sterling Bank Plc yielded significant cost savings and enhanced brand awareness, while her tenure at HTN Towers saw successful investor communications and business growth.

Acknowledged as one of Nigeria’s top 50 PR professionals, she also co-chairs the NextGen Committee at PRCA Scotland, mentoring early-career PR professionals. Her expertise spans communication strategy, crisis communication, change management, and stakeholder engagement, positioning her as a leading figure in global public relations.

Omawumi Ogbe
Managing Partner, GLG Communications and Creator, PR Power List

Omawumi Ogbe is the managing partner at GLG Communications, a leading PR and reputation management firm. A candidate in Europe’s #1 Executive MBA program at HEC Paris, Omawumi holds a postgraduate degree in Media and Communication from Pan-Atlantic University, where she finished overall best-graduating student. A TEDx speaker and experienced trainer, Omawumi’s leadership skills have led her team to win several awards, including “Best Innovation in PR” at the 2022 LaPRIGA Awards. She is the first female president of the Life Coaches Association of Nigeria(LCAN) and a 2019 Coaching Icon Award recipient. She has received other awards, including the 2023 Outstanding PR Personality of the Year by Marketing Edge Brands and Advertising Excellence Awards, a 2022 Leading Ladies Africa 100 Most Inspiring Women in Nigeria, and the 2022 Class of 40 under 40 Most Influential People of African Descent by MIPAD. She is a board member at the Azeez Amida Foundation.

Zsofia BALATONI

Zsofia is a communication professional with 20+ years of strategic communications and ESG communication experience. She has won over 200 awards on three continents. Since founding her first agency 16 years ago with her partner, her clients have included the largest multinational firms in tech, finance, pharma, and FMCG, such as Mastercard, Microsoft, Xiaomi, Sanofi, Merck, Knorr Bremse, Airbus, NN, Aegon, Danone, Unilever, Nestle, Nespresso, Coca-Cola, and Heineken, in over 30 countries in Europe, America, and Asia.

 

Panchanathan Kamalanathan

Kamalanathan is the Chairman of the Public Relations Practitioners Society of Malaysia. He is an Award winning Accredited Public Relations Practitioner, Former Member of Parliament, and Former Deputy Minister of Education.  He is a Fellow of the London Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) as well as a Fellow of the Institute of Public Relations Malaysia (IPRM). He was recently inducted as a Master Associate Member of the Public Relations & Communications Association of Malaysia (PRCAM). He is currently serving as a member of the Board of Director with the Asian Institute of Medical, Science and Technology (AIMST) University. In recognition of his contributions to society, P Kamalanathan was honored with The Exalted Order of the Crown of Kedah in 2016 by His Royal Highness the Sultan of Kedah and received the Most Distinguished Order of the Territorial Crown (Knight Commander P.M.W) in the same year from the His Royal Highness the King of Malaysia.

Adetutu Laditan

Adetutu Laditan has over 15 years in brand marketing in Sub Saharan Africa. As a senior product marketing manager for YouTube, her role involves growing the video channel’s premium products, developing brand partnerships, analyzing how consumers use YouTube and guiding video creators and influencers on making more engaging content. Today, Adetutu is driving the growth of untapped video audiences across Sub Saharan Africa, inspiring the one million internet users on the continent to use YouTube more. Prior to Google, Adetutu led multiple large scale campaigns for global media agency OMD, where she revamped multi-million dollar portfolios for brands such as Diageo, Standard Chartered Bank and Ecobank.

Amanda Woolverton

Amanda Woolverton is an award-winning marketing and communication leader with extensive global experience in the high-tech industry. She has held leadership positions in strategy development, marketing, and communication at Microsoft, Ericsson, and Bloomberg. She has a proven track record of elevating brand value and driving business growth.

Amanda’s experience has equipped her with keen insights into technology development and market dynamics, as well as the capability to connect the dots through cultural understanding and a global perspective. She currently serves as an advisor to the Economic Corridor initiative (IMEC) while participating in the EMBA program at HEC Paris.

Ayeni Adekunle (Founder & CEO, BHM)

Ayeni Adekunle has distinguished himself as a force in the PR industry. In 2006, he founded Black House Media. 14 years later, BHM became the first Nigerian PR agency to launch operations internationally in the UK, with branches in London and Edinburgh. In 2021, it became the first African Corporate Affiliate Member of the Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR). Forbes Africa describes him as one of Nigeria’s pioneers of digital marketing communications. In 2021, Provoke named him a key innovator in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA). BHM has also pioneered innovations like the annual PR report in 2016, the World PR Day, and the Global Day of Influence in 2020, and most recently, Pres|Ofis, a media and public relations tool by its platform Plaqad.

Camelia Lavinia Olteanu

As the Vice President of Group Operations Excellence at Qatar National Bank (QNB), Camelia brings over 14 years of rich and diverse experience in leading high-impact projects and driving organizational change. She has proven to be a pivotal force in her leadership in launching two innovative digital banks from inception to market release in Saudi Arabia and Egypt. Before joining QNB in 2021, Camelia excelled in the telco transformation sector, implementing significant process improvements and enhanced work methodologies. 

She holds an Executive MBA from HEC Paris, a Master’s in European Business from the European School of Management (ESCP), and degrees in Political and Economic Sciences. In recognition of her exemplary leadership and contributions, she has received accolades such as the Vodafone Pride Recognition Award, honoring her improvements to Project Management Office (PMO) Governance. Outside of work, she enjoys polo, horse riding, and playing tennis.

Anthony Osae-Brown

Anthony Osae-Brown is the Bureau Chief of Bloomberg, Nigeria, where he leads reporting on Africa’s largest economy. With over 17 years of experience as a financial journalist and communications professional, Anthony has a deep understanding of business and economic issues in Nigeria. He has previously held positions at BusinessDay and has worked as a stringer for Mergermarket and a regular commentator for BBC World Service.

As a published author, Anthony has three books to his credit, including “Understanding the Nigerian Financial System for Senior Secondary Schools,” “The Secret of How Dangoma Became a Billionaire,” and “Smart Investment Tips for Retail Investors.” His journalistic excellence has been recognized with numerous awards, including the Best Business News at the Diageo Africa Business Reporting Awards (DABRA) in 2011 and the Citi Journalistic Excellence Awards in 2011.

Anthony holds a first degree in Finance from the University of Ilorin, Nigeria, and a Master of Science degree in Financial Journalism with Distinction from the University of Stirling, Scotland.

Ugo Obi-Chukwu

Ugo Obi-chukwu “Ugodre” is a chartered accountant with over 18 years experience in financial management, corporate finance and financial analysis. He is also a retail investor and a personal finance advocate with over a decade experience investing in the Nigerian stock market. Ugo is the founder/Publisher of Nairametrics. In 2023, Ugodre Obi-Chukwu emerged as the winner of the EY Entrepreneur of the Year Award. As a financial literacy and retail investor advocate, his expertise and opinions are often shared radio and TV shows where he appears as an in-house expert in matters of the economy.

Dr. Sarah Glova (PhD), Founder of Reify Media

Dr. Sarah Glova is a globally recognized speaker, successful entrepreneur,, and business consultant. Known for translating complicated technical trends into authentic discussions with humor and data-driven insights, which have resonated with audiences across the globe. She is the Founder and CEO of the award-winning digital media firm, Reify Media, launched in 2012; a self-funded company which supports major universities, corporates, and nonprofits by creating websites, eLearning, compliance training, video, and more cutting-edge digital resources. Sarah has a PhD in Instructional Technology, and an MSc in Technical Communications. She is also  a published author and international speaker.
